Resolutions. (Part 2)

My first three resolutions for 2013 were around fitness, travel and food. The next three are about friends, garden and savings.

FRIENDS > Keep in touch better with faraway friends. Write more letters and send interesting parcels!
The great thing about living in several different states is that it means I have friends all over the place. Facebook is fantastic for staying updated with my friends on the little, everyday things - and also the big things, like new houses or babies or world travels. But I still love writing letters. I have a pen friend (actually, an old primary school friend) and we've been writing letters to each other for more than 20 years. I love getting (nice) things in the mail, so this is my year for paying it forward and being proactive about being the one to send letters, cards, little notes and surprise gifts.

GARDEN > get the veggie garden going properly. Get ready for chooks. Compost properly and get a bokashi bucket. Eat fresh!
One thing I loved about living in the Adelaide Hills was our veggie garden. We built raised garden beds and had all sorts of things growing, including three types of tomatoes, spinach, pumpkins and herbs. We had three chickens and fresh eggs every day. Now that summer in Alice Springs is gradually drawing to an end (I say that reservedly, as it's forecast for 40 degrees Celsius next week), it's time we got the veggies started. Last weekend we really got going and built an enclosed area in the backyard, including a separated section for chickens and an avery for them to sleep and roost in. We've got a way to go in getting the soil ready, but we're armed with a little book about what to plant in Alice Springs and when and there's a good garden shop just around the corner where I can get a bokashi bucket (or two). This is a year-long project but it feels good to get started!

SAVINGS > Self-explanatory.
Don't really need to say any more about this, do I!

I also had some general, overall resolutions, which are:
Watch less TV...
Wear more sunscreen > For some reason, I don't seem to get sunburnt here in Central Australia, but there is sunshine all year round so I need to make sure I look after my skin.
Be creative every day...
Take more photos > Especially since I was given a beaut Nikon 1 V1 for Christmas.
Study! > I've recently embarked on a law degree and I'd like to finish my masters. Hence the reason for watching less TV, I guess.
