Alice Springs Sunday

Back home in Alice Springs, what better way to start off a Sunday than a leisurely bike ride and coffee. My friend and I have almost matching bikes so we set off for a lazy pedal along the river bike path, then back into town for a coffee. Just the right pace for a Sunday.

Hope you're enjoying the weekend, whatever you're doing!

This week on Instagram.

Here's a snippet from my Instagram feed this week. How was your week? I happily pedalled around on my shiny new bike, drank coffee and tea and spent a busy week at work. It even rained heavily for a couple of minutes yesterday! An exciting thing here in the desert. Now, it's off to finish an assignment for uni - this time, I've got the deadline right. Happy weekending to you!

Books and rain.

It's a rainy Sunday today and the perfect kind of morning to drink coffee, eat brunch and talk about books. A few weeks back I mentioned the book club - an informal group of friends who all love to read and we all wanted some extra motivation to read outside our comfort zones, in the midst of our busy lives.

Our first book was 'Swimming Home' by Deborah Levy, and our latest book was 'The Sense of and Ending' by Julian Barnes - very different books written in completely different styles. Have you read either if these?

It's still raining and now it's a perfect sort of afternoon to curl up with a book and a cup of tea. Now, if only my uni work would just do itself.

Learning and un-learning.

I'm in the very early stages of a Law degree and one of the interesting things that I'm noticing is not so much the learning that I'm doing, but the un-learning.

It's a very structured way of looking at words and language and meaning. All assumptions have to be put to the wayside and you can't just jump to a conclusion. It's both black and white, and shades of grey; every word has a meaning, but that meaning can be interpreted subjectively, to some extent and there is always a context to consider.

The things that I am learning are interesting; but it's the un-learnings that are really making me think.

Coffee, of course, always helps.

Study / Distraction.

My weekend is almost entirely dedicated to studying for my exam on Monday. Which is a real shame, because the Travelling Film Festival is in town this weekend I would have much preferred to be watching interesting international films.

I did, however, manage to be distracted by a lovely little bicyclette at the local bike shop - of course, it always happens when I go in there for something minor. Sadly, it was too small for me, so I didn't get to take it home. (They are going to try and track one down for me, though!)

Here it is. Isn't it lovely?

Also pictured are my new favourite beads, snapped up for only $3.50! And a study/work staple: double shot latte.

This week on Instagram.

Here's a snippet of what I got up to on Instagram this week. Do you use Instagram to post and share photos? I love it. In fact, I might be slightly addicted...

Baking cupcakes / corrugated iron on our fence / building and sky near my office / weekend coffee and brunch / getting my track bike ready for training this week
